When we think of March, we associate St Patty’s Day or Mardi Gras; however this month represents yet another significant occasion…National Nutrition Month®! The National Nutrition Month® campaign was created by the American Dietetic Association as a way to focus attention on the importance of making informed food choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits. It also provides an excellent opportunity to support registered dietitians who dedicate their careers to enhancing the public’s quality of life by imparting valuable nutrition expertise. The campaign actually first started in 1973 as a week-long event, but moved to a month-long observance in 1980 due to the public’s increased interest in nutrition. It’s nearly 30 years later and the nutrition movement has grown even stronger. This year’s theme is Eat Right with Color and reminds us to eat a variety of foods in all colors for optimal health.
